Words that will strengthen your English CV

Making, doing, managing… These words are at the beginning of each item in the Experience section, right? I mentioned that your CV is the first impression of your professional life as a candidate. To make that first impression stronger, I have listed words that can make your CV stronger, more colorful, and avoid repetition.

If you are writing a few sentences or bullet points about yourself, the words below might be helpful. You can also write them in the “About” section of your LinkedIn profile.

specialized, experienced, interested, motivated, skilled, expert, passionate

Example: Experienced Sales Manager, Specialized in Project Management, Expert in International Trade

I recommend that you take time to customize your CV according to the role you are applying for. By reading the job description and adding relevant keywords based on the required tasks, skills, and characteristics for the role, you can catch the attention of the reviewer or HR professional. This can be an effective strategy.

achieved, administered, developed, improved, maintained, coordinated, analyzed, conducted, demonstrated, presented, interpreted, performed, generated, consolidated, directed, trained, recruited, adjusted, completed, implemented, repaired, increased, reduced, maximized, strengthened, launched, established, consulted, promoted, improved, planned, documented, reported, organized, identified, researched, secured, ran, initiated, facilitated, expanded, validated, optimized, evaluated, won, integrated, wrote, contributed, drafted, processed, invented, upgraded, assured, assisted, saved, obtained, delegated, clarified, built, monitored, executed, coached, prioritized, transformed, prevented, determined, constructed, advised, moderated, empowered, resolved, standardized, delivered

After writing the tasks and responsibilities of the role you experienced, it would be effective to add an “achievements” section and write about the achievements and value you added during that role. I believe this section strengthens the CV, and the following questions might provide some ideas:

  • “promoted” - Did you get promoted in less time than expected?
  • “won, received” – Do you have any awards you received individually or as part of a project team?
  • “increased, reduced” – What concrete contributions did you make? If you contributed to a critical factor for the company (sales, cost, participation rate in a social responsibility project, number of customers, social media followers, etc.), make sure to include it.
  • “secured, validated” – Did you identify a potential opportunity or risk in advance and take action or precautions early to avoid a crisis? How did this contribute to the company, team, or your individual performance?
  • “planned” – Did you lead a project entirely under your responsibility? Did you make an impact during the strategic planning, project planning, presenting, or approval process for your team/company?
  • “I implemented, I completed, I initiated, I facilitated…” – How would you complete these sentences? Have you planned and implemented a project from scratch? Did you lead a project, initiative, or cultural change? Have you facilitated, shortened timelines, or increased efficiency through suggestions in a process, project, or system?
